Spirit Speak is a 78 card hand drawn black and white tarot card deck. They are the size of traditional playing cards making them easy to toss in your bag. This deck is intended to be easy to use and read. Each image was made to be easily accessible, with the hopes that the bold and graphic work in the deck will make the symbolism simple to understand. Each deck comes with a keepsake box and a small guidebook that explains each card meaning. This is the 1st Spirit Speak deck and was published in Oakland California in 2014
Mary Elizabeth Evans, born in Nashville Tennessee was influenced early on by her environment. Dark and playful southern folk art and storytelling have become the bones of Mary's work. Folk art, serving more as a craft than "high art" is a reoccurring theme. Raised in the church, from a young age she was attracted to ritual and mysticism. Themes of the occult materialize themselves from a feminist perspective in naive line work that dance and tumble on paper. In her practice she honors craft as a form of expression that is accessible to many and can be used as a tool for self reflection.
